Overview
You can obtain the following information using the Canon Driver Information Assist Service.
Device option information:
You can get information about options attached to the device (paper drawers, finisher, etc.).
Calibration information:
You can obtain calibration information when obtaining device information and when printing in color.
Authentication when printing using Department ID Management:
If you are using the Department ID Management function, you can obtain authentication information when printing.
Paper information:
You can obtain information about custom paper sizes registered in the device.

Workstation
If the above services are not installed in the operating system, or if they are disabled, you cannot start the Canon Driver Information Assist Service.

Network connection: TCP/IP and IPX (must be set using PortSetTool)
Local connection (32 bit): Centronics and USB
Device Information Acquisition Routes
The modules required for the Canon Driver Information Assist Service to acquire information from devices, and the routes by which this information is acquired, differ according to the following factors.
Type of printer queue (local printer or network printer)
Printer connection method (network connection (LPR etc.) or local connection (LPT or USB))
Server environment (terminal server or XenApp/Presentation server)

Information can only be acquired using the driver

Canon Driver Information Assist Service is required on the same computer

Server sharing
The Canon Driver Information Assist Service must be
installed in the print server
IPP connection
Information can only be acquired using the driver
(information cannot be acquired via IIS)
SMB connection
Address setting using PortSetTool is required
NetWare printer
Address setting using PortSetTool is required
PortSetTool is an auxiliary tool for setting addresses for ports for which addresses cannot be resolved. This tool is not supported by 64 bit computers, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1.
